JOB DESCRIPTION

The Manager, Chief Accountant’s Department – Advisory and Policy will have responsibilities for the development, maintenance and interpretation of the Bank’s accounting policies and accounting advisory responsibilities in support of Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM). Additionally, this role requires the incumbent to assist in the monitoring, tracking and implementation of new and emerging accounting standards.

  • Act as subject matter expert on TBSM related accounting issues, including hedge accounting, foreign exchange, financial instruments, fair value concepts.
  • Act as the primary APA contact for matters relating to the TBSM investment portfolio and related classification and measurement issues.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and practical technical accounting advisory services under IFRS to stakeholders.
  • Translate and communicate complex accounting topics to stakeholders, recognizing and anticipating potential opportunities and recommending changes as the business or regulatory environment changes.
  • Research and benchmark new accounting and reporting disclosure requirements from accounting standard-setting authorities.
  • Assist in the preparation of the external consolidated shareholder reports (financial statements note disclosures, Supplemental Financial Information Package).
  • Keep up to date with new accounting pronouncements under IFRS and US GAAP and present updates as necessary (e.g., IBOR reform).
  • Manage and develop good working relationships with key business partners and stakeholder groups, both internally (segment finance, financial and regulatory reporting, finance operations, risk, tax) and externally (advisors and auditors).
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and interpretation of Bank-wide accounting policies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

  • Candidate must possess a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) designation, coupled with a minimum 5 years of relevant financial accounting experience.
  • Strong IFRS technical accounting background with a focus on financial instruments, and accounting issues relating to banking and capital market institutions. US GAAP experience in the same areas is an asset.
  • Must be detailed oriented and quick to understand and apply new concepts.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate clearly with various stakeholders at various levels of seniority.
  • Proven analytical skills, sound judgment, attention to detail and high personal standards for accuracy.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, multiple tasks and adapt well to changing priorities.
  • Strong, proven ability to work in a team, provide training, fostering a positive and rewarding work environment within the Department and the TD Finance team
