Overview:
The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing patient care in an outpatient, surgical, and/or inpatient setting under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Responsibilities
  • Obtains medical history and performs the appropriate examination to establish a working problem list.
  • Assesses patients at an advanced level, identifies health status including abnormal conditions, establishes a diagnosis, develops and implements treatment plans and evaluates client outcomes.
  • Orders or performs the appropriate laboratory or diagnostic testing.
  • Orders or performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care.
  • Prescribes legend drugs, therapeutic devices, and controlled substances (Schedule III-V) as permitted under Arkansas Law, in accordance with written protocols and/or collaborative practice agreement.
  • Documents care provided in the patient’s medical record.
  • Recognizes his/her limits of knowledge and experience, planning for situation beyond his/her expertise, and collaborating with or referring to other healthcare providers as appropriate.
  • Supervises assisting nurses and ancillary personnel in their provision of patience care.
  • Uses critical thinking and decision making at an advanced level, commensurate with the autonomy, authority and responsibility of his/her license.
