It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a full time S pecialty Doctor in Anaesthesia.
The posts are initially contracted for 10 programmed activities per week.
The demands of the Anaesthetic department mean that close and ongoing collaboration with SAS grade colleagues is required. A degree of mutual two-way flexibility in sessional provision is anticipated. This job involves cross site working between our two principal hospitals at York & Scarborough, with York Hospital as the base site
Individual job plans will be discussed and finalised with the clinical director on appointment and will become operational on commencement. All jobs plans are agreed in line with the Trusts Job Planning Principles.
At York Hospital there are 12 operating theatres in our main suite (including one dedicated to vascular imaging assisted work). We have a dedicated day unit with 6 theatres and an ophthalmology operating area with 2 theatres. These are supported by two Post-Anaesthetic Care Units (PACUs). There are also two separate obstetric theatres.
Surgical services currently supported include general surgery (including colorectal and upper GI), orthopaedics and trauma, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT, maxillo-facial, oral surgery, ophthalmology, urology and vascular. Enhanced recovery programmes are well advanced in colorectal and orthopaedic surgery and are being rolled out in other specialties. Preoperative assessment sessions are provided as well as a full nurse-led pre-assessment service. We also have an established perioperative programme along with a successful CPET service.
There are a number of clinical leads for subspecialties including day surgery, acute pain, chronic pain, obstetrics, paediatrics, colorectal, vascular, perioperative assessment and CPX testing.
