Description:
The inpatient department provides an exciting opportunity to develop high quality skills in Inpatient Cardiology investigation and management. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will take opportunity to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the department’s service and may desire special training in imaging – especially echocardiography (and possibly CT angiography) although special training in other areas such as heart failure, pacing, hypertension and prevention could be developed. The post-holder is expected to develop skills with appropriate accreditation such as BSE transthoracic echocardiography accreditation. It is anticipated that the post will include an initial period of training and supervision in general aspects of cardiology with the development of specific expertise dependent on progress and proven aptitude. A trainee already highly competent will be given earlier opportunity to specialise.
The Specialty Doctor will be expected to provide middle grade (registrar) clinical supervision of CMT and FY trainees on the wards. The Specialty Doctor is rostered to participate in the outpatient cardiology clinics working under the supervision of the consultants and will also be invited to attend MDT meetings and take an active part in Quality Improvement Programmes including audit. The successful candidate would be expected to show an understanding of the importance of good communication and continuity in this role. The department will be operating a consultant of the week model with consultants rotating to do ward cover for a week with daily consultant-led ward rounds on the Heart Care Unit.
