Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (BWC) is seeking to recruit a Specialty doctor to work with the Multi-Disciplinary Team treating children and adolescents up to the age of 18 in our specialist inpatient unit at the Parkview clinic. Parkview clinic offers a range of opportunities to work on a general adolescent unit, an assessment unit and a specialist eating disorder unit.
The post holder will support delivery of specialist psychiatric input, psychiatric assessment and treatment for young people admitted with various mental disorders, as well as contribute to providing psychiatric & medical risk management . The post holder will have a close working relationship with the consultant psychiatrists and multidisciplinary team based at the Parkview clinic.
From an overall professional perspective, they will support the Medical Lead, Medical Director for FTB and MH services and Chief Medical Officer of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (BWC). In turn all are ultimately responsible within the Trust to the Chief Executive Officer.

To take part in weekly ward meetings that support the clinical model including ward round, CPA meetings, formulation and care planning meetings
To oversee the medical care of inpatients on the ward including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and physical aspects of children and young peoples’ presentation
Undertake risk assessment and management
Liaison with families and, where appropriate, with other agencies
Undertake gateway assessments for referrals into the service
Undertake activities to support the management of detained patients
To consult with senior medical colleagues where further help with complex assessments is needed.
To take clinical responsibility for any patient seen by him/ her, and for the advice he/she gives to members of the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will contribute to admission planning, reviews and discharge planning with other members of the specialist team.
The post holder will contribute to i mplementation of clinical guidelines.
The post holder will support the team in participating in reviews e.g. QNIC standards and CQC reviews.
Liaising with other agencies particularly with regard to continuity of patient care. This is particularly important in complex cases when liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies is necessary.
Assuring the involvement of families and carers wherever possible with the patients consent in treatment planning.
To write letters and communications to GPs and other professionals as required.
To participate in various medical staff meetings within Forward Thinking Birmingham and BWC Mental Health Services as required.
To participate in the SAS doctors on- call rota covering out of hours’ responsibilities including weekends.
Flexibility to shape and respond to changing service requirements. To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12 (2) approval, Approved Clinician status and abide by Professional Codes of Conduct.
To participate annually in a job plan review which will include consultation with a relevant Manager in order to ensure that the post is developed, to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the Mental Health Services’ senior management team in preparing plans for services.
To work with administrative staff to record accurately and comprehensively, clinical activity and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
To participate in service and business planning activity for the Business Unit and, as appropriate, for the whole Mental Health Service.
To participate in annual appraisal process.
To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme
