JOB SUMMARY

The Lumber Yard Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the store and yard and ensuring efficient management of warehouse and inventory. This role requires a strong leader with proven management experience, in-depth product knowledge, and the ability to foster a safe, efficient, and customer-focused work environment. Client relations/Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance within our company.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring operational excellence, developing staff, and maintaining the highest standards of service to our retail, contractor, and wholesale clients.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of management experience in a lumber yard, building materials, or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of specialty lumber products (cedar, hardwoods, timbers, and custom milling).
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Forklift and equipment operation experience; safety certifications are an asset.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting consistently throughout the workday is essential for this role.
  • Candidates should possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting

Responsibilities
  • Manage retail store and yard operations, including the loading and unloading of materials using forklifts.
  • Execute day to day retail and wholesale transactions efficiently.
  • Oversee order picking processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency in fulfilling customer orders.
  • Provide daily sales reporting to owners
  • Maintain a clean and organized storefront and yard environment to promote safety and productivity.
  • Manage inventory levels using a warehouse management system to track stock movements.
  • Coordinate with owners to ensure timely shipping and receiving of goods.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
  • Train and mentor summer staff on best practices for heavy equipment operation and warehouse procedures.
  • Perform heavy lifting as required during loading and unloading activities.
  • Work with owners to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.
