Description JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the referral process of new patients to (sub)specialty services of The Emory Clinic, starting from the point at which the TEC registration function is complete (Global Patient Registration). Requests and tracks patient records and prepares charts for review by a nurse (navigator) or other knowledgeable clinician. Distributes charts/clinical data per departmental procedures. Communicates with patients and physician offices as needed to secure additional information or records. Scans records for multi-disciplinary appointments. Orders and tracks outside images or specimens, such as pathology slides, as directed by the clinical team. Submits images/specimens/etc. as applicable for review by an Emory Clinic expert (e.g. Pathology). Assists in obtaining insurance referrals as needed. Initiates and coordinates communication with various departments including financial counseling and clinical teams. Schedules and pre-certifies any ancillary tests, multi-disciplinary appointments or additional labs as requested by nurse navigator. Schedules or reschedules new patient appointments as necessary, after clinical review. Creates and manages a system for the distribution of clinical information to the nurse and clinical team. Cross-trains and cross-covers co-workers when needed. Meets team goals regarding number of patient referrals processed in a timely manner. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree with two years of healthcare experience, or 6 years experience in a healthcare environment will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree. Prefer experience in a specialty or subspecialty clinic. Computer skills including IDX, Cerner Powerchart/Millennium, MS Word and Excel are needed. Must have effective interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to work as part of a team. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (MediumMax 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
