DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Specification Writer – Architecture to join our Architecture & Engineering (A/E) Services team. This position focuses on writing, editing, and managing architectural specifications for healthcare and commercial building projects. This role is primarily remote, with up to 25% travel for on-site meetings, client engagements, and project-related activities. Work includes incorporating the Veterans Affairs Technical Information Library (VA TIL) standards, collaborating with architects, engineers, and project managers, and supporting design deliverables using Revit and other design software.
The ideal candidate has experience with construction specifications, healthcare facility design, and building codes, is detail-oriented, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and edit architectural specifications, including VA TIL master specifications, from initial draft to final bid documents.
  • Collaborate with architects, designers, and project managers to ensure specifications align with project scope, budget, codes, and client requirements.
  • Provide guidance on construction documents, product selection, and specification best practices.
  • Support design work, including floor plan layouts, production drawings, and coordination with engineering, electrical, and HVAC teams.
  • Develop, modify, and review production drawings and edit project narratives and specifications.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, construction administration, and quality control activities.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing on architectural practices, industry standards, and regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication with leadership, project teams, and clients to ensure on-time, high-quality project delivery.
