In this role, there will be the opportunity to- Demonstrate a service-oriented approach with courtesy, respect, and enthusiasm. Show initiative and assist with completing departmental tasks. Monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries for timely specimen processing. Investigate and resolve specimen or requisition issues; request help when needed. Complete quality forms for unacceptable specimens or errors. Separate specimens by centrifugation and label aliquot tubes per policy. Enter specimen receive times and patient data into the computer system. Answer phone inquiries regarding specimen collection, results, and ranges. Follow safety regulations for handling biohazardous materials and sharps. Verify specimen identity and match with requisitions or labels. Prepare and send specimens to outside labs as needed. Receive, sort, and prioritize specimens per lab policy. Disinfect work areas and participate in training new staff. Perform routine technical and clerical duties as directed. Reqruired: High School diploma or equivalent. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers (as well as co-workers) both by telephone and in person. Preferred: Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment, including knowledge of or experience in Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems. Three to six months of experience in a service environment including call center, customer service center, or product distribution/fulfillment center. Electronic medical records (EMR) experience.
