Description:

This is a full time band 5 rotational post within the Adult Speech & Language Therapy Service. You will provide Speech and Language Therapy services to a caseload of clients with a range of acquired neurological swallowing and communication needs. A significant proportion of these clients will have English as an additional language (EAL). One half of the rotation is based on the HASU and acute stroke unit and the second part of the rotation is split between acute inpatients and outpatients.
Within the acute and stroke teams you will have the opportunity to develop skills in cough reflex testing, referring patients for FEES and VFSS and exposure to a wide variety of clinical populations including stroke, care of the elderly, general medical and surgical wards and neurology. We will support you to progress through your newly qualified practitioner competencies and dysphagia competencies.
Within the outpatient team you will be expected to manage your own caseload with support from a senior therapist ensuring Speech and Language Therapy programmes and care plans are in place for the clients under their care. You will be expected to work collaboratively with patients / clients, parents / carers and with colleagues in Health, the voluntary sector and Social Services in planning and delivery of own service.
You will be able to participate in team meetings, contributing to departmental / team audit and research projects. You will deliver and evaluate clinical training within the hospital setting to other professionals and patients / carers on all aspects of swallowing, speech, language and communication.
