JOB DESCRIPTION

Yarm School seeks a vibrant and flexible part-time LAMDA Speech & Drama Teacher to join our team. Our flourishing drama department boasts several plays and productions each year in our state of the art theatre. This role will contribute by delivering private Speech and Drama lessons to pupils. You will work with students from Years 7-13 preparing them for LAMDA exams from Grade 3 upwards and nurturing their verse, prose, acting and public speaking skills.

CONTRACTUAL MATTERS

  • The requirement is to fulfil 31 half-hour lessons per pupil per year, on average 10 lessons per term. There is an additional 25 minutes admin allowance per pupil per year to be claimed on a timesheet.
  • The precise contract each year will depend on pupil demand, therefore there is no set contractual weekly hours from year to year.
  • The teaching timetable will be coordinated with the Head of Drama and will see delivery of lessons between the hours of 8:30 and 17:00 Monday to Friday. The exact working pattern will be dependent on the number of pupils requiring lessons, the availability of the job holder and the timetabling for the academic year.
  • If you are unable to teach your lessons due to your own absence, catch up sessions must be provided to pupils within the same half term.
  • Role commencement date is 26th August 2025.
  • Attendance at INSET days, departmental meetings and training sessions throughout the year will be required. Any pre-approved additional hours required for these purposes would be paid at the hourly rate for the role.
  • A generous defined contribution pension scheme is provided for eligible employees.
  • There may be some additional hours available to work to help the Drama department prepare for plays and events. Any pre-approved additional hours would be paid at the hourly rate for the role.
  • Hourly rate of £22.97 (including holiday pay) is for contact time only. Any time in between pupil lessons is unpaid.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching Speech & Drama to individuals or pairs of pupils in a half-hour lesson,as allocated by the Head of Drama, on a weekly basis during term time. Applying a rolling schedule of lessons for during the school day and the provision of some after-school lessons.
  • Preparing students for completion of LAMDA examinations from Grade 3 upwards (including Verse & Prose, Acting, Public Speaking and appropriate Theory).
  • Preparing lessons to ensure progress, understanding and challenge in the students’ performance and public speaking skills.
  • Incorporating Acting exercises and techniques, breathing exercises, vocal delivery, building confidence, exploration of character, writer and context into the format of lessons.
  • Attendance at in school LAMDA examinations to support pupils in preparation.
  • Preparation of written reports for each student taught (once a year).
  • Completing pupils’ Duke of Edinburgh’s Award records for skills sections.
  • Attending staff meetings and appropriate training as required; participating in Appraisal.
  • Maintenance of attendance register and liaising with school/parents regarding anyattendance queries.
  • There may also be the opportunity to contribute to the school’s Drama co-curricular programme.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by your Line Manager.
