Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the (GS-11) grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is described as screening, evaluating, and providing educational services to families and young children; analyzing and interpreting standardized test results, family concerns, and routines in the evaluation of delays in children; collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to evaluate children; and providing early intervention services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays in the areas of communication, cognitive, motor, adaptive, and social/emotional domains.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Responsibilities
  • Work to prevent, evaluate and provide services to young children with developmental delays.
  • Implement a family-centered approach to services that support and foster confidence and competence for families to meet the needs of their child in the child’s natural environments e.g. home, daycare, school.
  • Participate in the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) public awareness program to include providing information on infant developmental milestones and the importance of the early identification of infants with disabilities.
  • Participate in child find activities to identify children with potential delays.
  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team in conducting developmental assessments of children who may have single, multiple, or complex developmental needs.
  • Perform screening and evaluation of the infant/toddler level of development of all forms of communication, including expressive and receptive language, communicative intent, gesturing, and across all developmental domains.
  • Provide Early Intervention Services (EIS) to infants/toddlers and their families in natural environments to develop and adapt coaching strategies for families that facilitates the child’s functional development.
  • Discuss assessment results with parents, provide written and oral reports of evaluation, and provide feedback to referral sources. If child qualifies for services establish an individualized family service plan and review outcomes.
