Description

The Countywide Adult Speech & Language Therapy Team is looking for a newly qualified Speech & Language Therapist to join our friendly and supportive department. You will be a motivated and active team member with excellent communication skills.
This post provides an exciting opportunity to develop skills and knowledge across a general adult inpatient caseload as well as specialist skills in stroke rehabilitation: The post involves sessions within the acclaimed Stroke Unit at Northampton General Hospital.
The post holder will independently manage a caseload receiving and accessing support and supervision from senior colleagues and will be part of the Acute Stroke Team helping provide assessment and specialist rehabilitation to patients on the Acute and Hypre acute Stroke wards .
They will be assigned a mentor and aim to complete your NQP competencies within the first year. We promote attendance at bi-monthly countywide adult SLT meetings and specialist clinical forums. All staff are encouraged to become members of Special Interest Groups and we have a strong culture of clinical supervision.

To assess, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment.
To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients with communication and/or feeding and swallowing disorders.
To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
To contribute to clinical teams both multi-disciplinary and uni-disciplinary by discussing own and others input around clients’ needs, ensuring a well-co-ordinated care plan.
To communicate complex condition related information from assessment to clients, carers, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professions.
To work closely with clients, carers and families, agreeing decision making relevant to the patient/client management.
To demonstrate empathy with clients, carers and families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
To develop skills in motivating clients and/or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.
To develop negotiation skills in the management of conflict across a range of situations.
To form productive relationships with others who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties.
To employ excellent communication skills.
To keep up to date with new techniques and developments for the promotion and maintenance of good practice.
