POSITION SUMMARY

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing a high level of Speech Pathology service to the allocated caseload within both the acute and subacute settings
  • Demonstrating and developing a sound level of clinical knowledge in the areas of swallowing, communication, voice and cognition.
  • Ensuring that Speech Pathology goals in the provision of treatment are patient focussed.
  • Liaising with senior speech pathology, medical staff and team members regarding appropriate clinical management of patients.
  • Actively participating in team meetings to ensure overall patient goals are comprehensive and holistic.
  • Ensuring clinical and professional skills and performance are continually developed through participation in formal and informal education and supervision sessions.
  • Undertaking self-learning relevant to the area of work to ensure evidence-based speech pathology practice.
  • Planning and managing own work load to ensure adequate time for achievement of the primary objectives of the position.
  • Continuous self-evaluation of performance and patient care.
  • Actively contributing to the annual departmental quality improvement plan.
  • Conducting in-services to hospital personnel such as nursing, medical and other allied health staff.
  • Participating in the department student education program under the supervision and direction of more senior Speech Pathology staff.
  • Supervision of AHAs during activities pertaining to their patients

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Essential:

  • A recognised degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Experience in an acute setting is preferred.
