Description
Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Speech Therapist that will provide high quality speech and language pathology services following standards of practice and laws set by the hospital, professional association, and federal, state, and local governments. The therapist evaluates the need for, and implements speech and language programs to restore, reinforce and enhance performance or adaptation following disease, injury, or loss of function. The therapist may attend unit rounds, discharge planning, evaluation clinics, in-service training, staff meetings, or other professional meetings. Also, supervises and assists in training of students, graduate Speech Pathologists, aides, and volunteers. Qualifications Certification/Registration * Graduation from an accredited Speech/Language Pathology program, with a minimum of a Masters degree in Speech/Language Pathology. * Licensure to provide Speech/Language Pathology services in West Virginia. Physical Demands: * May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. * Must be able to effectively interact with patients, family members, personnel and visitors under all conditions and circumstances. This includes hostile and emotionally upset people, those with infectious diseases or in areas with unpleasant odors. * May need to lift or assist patients at bedside, especially be able to support limbs or other body parts of patients up to 250 lbs. or more. May direct or obtain assistance with this task. * Must possess sight, hearing, and speech senses with/without prosthetic devices that will enable these senses to function adequately to preform assessment and treatment programs. * Must be able to cope with frequent interruptions, and schedule changes. * Must be able to speak and write English in an understandable manner.
Responsibilities
The Speech Therapist evaluates and implements speech and language programs to enhance patient performance following disease or injury. They also supervise and assist in training students and staff.
