About the job: Sports Officials are an essential part of the BPRD Youth Sports program. Officials are needed to work games throughout all seasons. Although past experience is not required, applicants must have a sound knowledge of the rules, enjoy working with youth and be able to create a positive, encouraging recreational environment for all players. **Applicants must be 14 yrs of age and older. A day in the life: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Enforce/implement BPRD sports policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness and players safety. Handle emergency situations as needed. Complete required reports/paperwork. Be aware of facility safety hazards and deal with them as quickly and efficiently as possible. If necessary, report safety hazards to supervisor. Communicate on a regular basis with coaches, participants, parent/guardians and district staff. Attend officials training clinics. Annually complete concussion training. Complete mandatory reporting training. Perform job related duties as assigned. Schedule: Pre-season Meeting: Thurs. April 9, 5pm BPRD District Office 799 SW Columbia St., Bend, OR 97702 Game Locations: Big Sky Sports Complex and Pacific Crest Fields Season: Games typically Monday - Thursday, occasional Friday. One-hour games starting at 5:30 and 6:30 Monday thru Thursday April 20 thru May 29. No weekend games. Officials get to pick their own work schedule. Compensation: Paid per game, see table below: Grades 1-2 & 3-4 Double$18/game non-licensed $21.60/game licensed Grades 1-2 & 3-4 Solo$ 27/game non-licensed $32.40/game licensed Grades 5-6 & 7-8 Double$24/game non-licensed $28.80/game licensed Grades 5-6 & 7-8 Solo$36/game non-licensed $43.20/game licensed Requirements What you’ll need for success: Considerable Knowledge of: Playing rules and regulations of specific sport required to do the job and safety guidelines related to assignment. Skill and Ability to: Apply and enforce playing rules of specific sport Exercise strong initiative and significant independent decision making; demonstrate strong leadership and problem solving skills Communicate effectively in both verbal and written form Interact with a variety of patrons/participants; establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts.
