REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Industrial Relations/Production Management/Manufacturing Engineering) and/or related work experience
  2. 3-5 years leadership experience, ALIT experience an asset
  3. Experience in operational improvements using Lean methods and techniques.
  4. Completion of Cosma International Post Graduate Program an asset
  5. Must have a thorough knowledge of general office procedures including PC and LAN computer use. Must be proficient in relevant computer software and program use.
  6. Experienced in Lean Implementation; standardized work, 5S, CI and problem-solving methods and implementation etc.
  7. Must possess human relations skills and maturity of judgement
  8. Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, and drive team to reach targets
  9. Must possess time management, leadership, strong communication, organizational and presentation skills (present to groups of up to 100 employees)

Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Supervisor ensures all requirements associated with the successful fabrication of product are met. This is facilitated through Team Leaders, and assembly personnel on more than one shift. The Supervisor oversees the Department operations, supports management, Team Leaders, and assembly personnel by acting as liaison in matters regarding policy application, employee relations, and continuous improvement for processes and productivity. This position carries direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibility for up to approximately 180 employees. The Supervisor assumes the roles of the Department Leader in his/her absence.

DUTIES:

  1. Conducts all business activity in a professional manner consistent with the positive leadership practices of building trust, empowerment, and competitiveness, with emphasis on personal responsibility.
  2. Responsible and accountable for meeting Presstran and departmental targets and goals
  3. Monitors and adjusts inventory balances as required, investigates inventory problems and working with other departments to implement solutions to source.
  4. Monitors and completes required Layered Process Audits (LPA)
  5. Co-ordinates the daily movement of quarantine material/parts/scrap upon disposition by material buyer/quality assurance
  6. Follows and adheres to requirements of current customer quality and environmental management systems standards
  7. Plans and directs the utilization and use of all equipment and manpower to achieve the most effective results.
  8. Understands, compiles and organizes operational data; accurately using that data to implement improvements by working with teams and using lean tools and problem-solving methods.
  9. Participates in personnel requirements planning, overtime scheduling, vacation planning and ensuring timely accuracy etc.
  10. Co-ordinates preventative maintenance and downtime with toolroom/maintenance depts. and production planner
  11. Promotes and recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery and ensures departmental CI’s are reviewed in time and implemented
  12. Processing CI’s in a timely manner.
  13. Regularly facilitating problem solving on shift. Supports other Supervisors and Team Leaders in compliance with: the Presstran Health and Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental program/procedures; the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for Industrial Establishments and other relevant Codes and Standards; and participates in performing regular workplace inspections; ensures corrective actions; leads investigation in serious/critical incident/accidents
  14. Ensures fairness to direct reports, and encourages and participates in the Open-Door Resolution Process for employee relation issues
  15. Teach, coach and mentor ALIT’s, Team Leaders, and LIT’s for succession planning and enhancement of leadership knowledge and skills
  16. Effectively builds and fosters teamwork within the department
  17. Supports other Supervisors and Team Leaders in compliance with the Presstran Health and Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental program/procedures by:
    a. Participating in performing regular workplace inspections to assist with hazard identification,
    b. Ensuring corrective actions are in place to address hazards;
    c. Leading investigation for all incidents, near misses, property damage etc.
    d. Providing employee training with TWI risk assessments, pre-use inspections, lock-out etc.
