POSITION SUMMARY & OVERALL OBJECTIVES:

​​The Senior Accountant will report to the Executive Administrator – Finance and work closely with the finance and development teams. The main responsibilities of the Senior Accountant involve maintaining monthly workpapers, ensuring proper recordings of all statement accounts, and managing daily accounting services in collaboration with others on the Finance team. This includes compiling reports, monitoring financial accounts, performing reconciliation, and collaborating with other departments on issues related to Finance. The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring that financial activities adhere to government regulations, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County (BGCDC) policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Senior Accountant is also expected to be flexible and adaptable, taking on other duties assigned to support the overall objectives of the organization.​

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • ​​Associate degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent experience.
  • ​Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • ​CPA preferred
  • ​A minimum of three five years of work experience in the accounting department of a multi-department company or equivalent experience managing invoices and budgets.
  • ​Proven track record of budgeting and accounting practices, processes, and procedures at non-profit organizations. ​
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Accounting Operations 40%

  • Maintain monthly workpapers and reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Monitor operating bank account, money markets, and CDs
  • Perform journal entries as needed (depreciation, accruals, adjusting entries)
  • Manage restricted revenue and restricted revenue releases; oversee the timely release of funds in alignment with donor intentions
  • Maintain reconciliation between special events revenue reporting and financial software reporting.
  • Manage financial software related to Finance and Development, to include Sage Intacct, Ramp, MyClubHub (Salesforce), PayPal, Facebook fundraisers, banking websites, etc
  • Monitor all Club assets including real property and endowment/Investments, including bank reconciliations.

Financial Records and Reports 40%

  • Ensure proper recording of all balance sheet, equity, and income statement accounts
  • Assist with the preparation of budget requests and/or periodic financial reporting for City of Madison, Wisconsin After 3, Be Great Graduate, and United Way funding and other major proposals
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly grant reporting including financial reports, supporting documentation and tracking
  • Work with external auditors to provide documentation as requested

Resource Development & Resource Management 20%

  • Consult with the Development team as needed to code donations that come in via mail and online into the donor database
  • Design reports in the donor database and assist the Development department with creating reports needed to give financial or donor information.
  • Field inquiries on receipt of grant funds, special event revenue, and other unexpected special project fundraisers with up-to-date information.

  • ​Other duties as assigned by supervisor to support the mission and vision of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County.
  • ​Support special events and community programs as assigned. ​

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ​​Collaborative with other members of the Finance team to help departments stay within budget.
  • ​Assist in tracking grant revenue and expenses for an $8 million organization.
