MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, include computer skills as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Business, Accounting or Finance required.
  • 2-4 years related experience and/or training.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications, and ability to learn new internal systems and tools.
  • Working knowledge of general ledger accounting functions.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to probe, question, and listen attentively.
  • Demonstrated project management and/or consultative skills when addressing complex inquiries from teammates, customers, and business partners.

Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This position is a Senior Accountant role with our CORE (General Accounting) team. The individual in this role will support various functions within the department that includes the preparation of accounting and control activities related to Corporate G&A, Rent and Utilities, Fixed Assets, MD Fees, Inventory, and Other Controllables, including accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting/analysis as well as implementation and monitoring of effective controls in accordance with SOX, GAAP, and audits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Accounting:

  • Responsible for general ledger functions such as journal entry preparation, account analysis, and reconciliations.
  • Review of staff accountant monthly close activities.
  • Preparation of audit support.
  • Provide general accounting support and utilize general business knowledge to assist operational and corporate teammates with non-routine accounting issues and concerns.
  • Support with various internal process reviews and SOX controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reporting / Analytics:

  • Support corporate and field operations financial reporting.
  • Prepare, develop, and modify recurring and ad-hoc financial schedules and related notes for management reporting.
  • Solid understanding of accounting with ability to support and provide recommendations for teammate trainings.
  • Provide reporting to identify and interpret trends and explain fluctuations.
  • Interact with other departments to explain and resolve issues.
  • General ledger functions such as account analysis, account reconciliation, trend analysis, and financial statement research.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify, develop, and implement efficient and standardized methods for recurring processes and reporting.
  • Execute accounting processes and maintain effective internal controls.
  • Prepare communications such as memos, presentation charts, and process documentation and coordinate with other departments, business offices and field operations.
  • Identify and investigate data inconsistencies, and system and process opportunities, ensuring the integrity of data in the general ledger.
  • Understand business processes and collaborate with teammates throughout the village to provide solutions to improve effectiveness/efficiency of processes.
  • Address inquiries from teammates/customers.
  • Make recommendations to accounting and operational management, as well as be responsible for day-to-day decisions concerning the accounting treatment of financial transactions.

Leadership:

  • Provide ongoing training, development, and coaching.
  • Work with leadership to establish, communicate, and ensure departmental goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Work as liaison between various accounting departments along with corporate and field operations.
