Job Summary
The Sr Accounting Manager will support the expanding mortgage business at Planet Financial Group and its subsidiary companies and supervise the finance department’s corporate accounting activities. The individual in this role will have a technical accounting background and needs to be able to multitask, prioritize and work well in a fast-paced, often with new events, team environment. This position will be responsible for monitoring daily, weekly and monthly corporate and originations activity, reviewing and posting general ledger entries, reviewing and reconciling general ledger accounts monthly, researching and resolving discrepancies, tracking budget versus actual results, and reporting results of analytics. Heavy involvement with process improvements, and managing and leading month-end close timelines. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for compilation of records to support tax filings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees of full cycle accounting, general ledger operations, month-end close, bank/general ledger account reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting. Ongoing focus on streamlining and automating routine transactions. Heavily involved with working with the team on routine tasks, resolving the issues to ensure timely general ledger postings. Trend analysis comparing budget to actuals and monthly reporting.
  • Supervises and develops a team of 3-4 individuals, to include continual focus on process improvements and efficiencies. Guides the team with technical accounting issues in compliance with GAAP.
  • Oversees compilation of records to support tax filings.
  • Monitors and analyzes financial data and produce reports to meet various reporting requirements.
  • Prepares ad hoc analysis and special projects due to growing portfolio and new regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA a plus

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years operational accounting experience required
  • Tax compilation experience required
  • Mortgage Industry or Financial Services experience a plus
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Minimum 2 years managerial skills required

Functional/Technical Skills

  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with various internal and external operations team members in multiple locations
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize open issues
  • Experience with SQL reporting a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel required
  • Must be comfortable working on a small accounting team in a growing company, and willing to take on special projects as they arise.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulations
