As a Senior Manager of Sales Operations, the Senior Sales Operations Analyst – Contract Compliance serves as United Rentals’ first line of defense in contractual compliance audits initiated by customers or third-party audit firms for customer and national account pricing contracts. This role manages the full audit engagement cycle — from initial data gathering and contractual review, through internal audit analysis and dispute preparation, to coordinating with internal and external stakeholders — with the goal of minimizing unwarranted financial claims and protecting company revenue.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in contract compliance, audit defense, financial analysis, or related fields
  • Experience in equipment rental, manufacturing, or similar industries preferred
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel; advanced skills in Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex commercial contracts
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data handling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple audits simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, data analysis tools, and openness to leveraging AI solutions

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Audit Intake & Data Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all incoming contractual compliance audits.
  • Scope and fulfill data requests, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with contractual requirements.
  • Contract Review & Commercial Term Analysis
  • Review customer contracts to interpret applicable commercial terms, including billing procedures, payment timelines, pricing schedules, rebates, markups, labor rates, logistics charges, and other negotiated terms.
  • Apply these terms when assessing auditor claims to identify potential misinterpretations or overreach.
  • Findings Review & Dispute Development
  • Analyze Summary of Monetary Issues (SMI) reports and other auditor findings.
  • Conduct internal audits using company data, financial analysis, and contract interpretation to validate or dispute claims.
  • Audit Defense Execution
  • Develop clear, data-backed dispute responses to challenge invalid audit findings.
  • Manage the back-and-forth with auditors, staying within approved negotiation parameters.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Partner with Sales, Pricing, Finance, and Legal teams to align audit defense strategies.
  • Prepare and present updates to senior leadership, flagging potential high-risk or high-dollar issues.
  • Continuous Improvement & Strategic Contributions
  • Maintain a repository of audit precedents, dispute strategies, and recurring contract interpretations.
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen future audit outcomes and reduce exposure.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to enhance contract structures, data retrieval systems, and compliance processes based on audit learnings.
