REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years of bookkeeping and payroll experience for incorporated businesses, including owner/shareholder support in a Canadian public practice or multi-client environment
  • Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online & Desktop (other software: Xero, Sage, Dext, Hubdoc, Wagepoint are assets)
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian GAAP for SMEs, payroll, CRA compliance, and tax remittance for both corporations and individuals
  • Proven experience preparing supporting schedules for T4, T5, T1, and reconciling shareholder accounts
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field
  • Professional certification (CPB, PCP, CPA, or equivalent) preferred

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to manage full-cycle bookkeeping, accounting and payroll for multiple incorporated clients- including all the supporting functions required for proper year-end and personal tax preparation for business owners and shareholders. This includes managing intercompany transactions, preparing supporting schedules for owner withdrawals/dividends, and assisting in compiling personal tax documentation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple incorporated clients (bank/credit card reconciliations, A/R, A/P, journal entries, month-end close)
  • Payroll processing for corporate clients, including multiple entities and owner/manager compensation (salary/dividend splits, bonuses, terminations, vacation, statutory holidays)
  • File and remit all government filings (payroll source deductions, ROEs, T4s, T5s, WSIB, EHT, GST/HST, and corporate tax instalments)
  • Track and reconcile intercompany loans, shareholder loans, dividends, and personal withdrawals by owners
  • Prepare supporting schedules for owner remuneration, dividend allocations, and benefits in kind (taxable benefits)
  • Compile, organize, and summarize documentation required for owners’ personal tax returns (T1), including employment income, dividends, shareholder loans, and expense reimbursement support
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and working papers for CPA review and tax filing
  • Set up and clean up corporate books, including opening balances and historical corrections as needed
  • Proactively communicate with clients to request missing documents, clarify transactions, and explain year-end/tax requirements
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and data security for all corporate and personal client information
