POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. CAD Detailer at ID3 Group is a highly skilled technical professional responsible for leading complex drafting and detailing tasks to support the fabrication of custom scenic environments, experiential installations, exhibits, and architectural elements. This role goes beyond standard detailing work, requiring leadership in design translation, technical problem-solving, and mentoring of junior team members.
The Sr. Detailer works closely with Project Managers, Designers, Engineers, and Fabrication Leads to ensure that all production documentation meets design intent, fabrication feasibility, and internal quality standards. This is a full-time exempt position that requires both independent execution and team leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of CAD drafting experience in scenic fabrication, custom exhibits, architecture, or theatrical production.
  • Mastery of AutoCAD required; proficiency in Rhino, SketchUp, SolidWorks, or Revit is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques, including wood, metal, foam, plastics, and scenic finishes.
  • Strong understanding of structural support, hardware integration, and production sequencing.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize across multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills, including experience working across departments and with clients as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others and provide mentorship in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit or stand at a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional walking on shop floor or site visits may be required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally when reviewing materials or documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of comprehensive 2D and 3D shop drawings for complex, custom fabrication projects.
  • Translate conceptual and schematic designs into precise, build-ready documentation.
  • Oversee detailing of multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to resolve design conflicts, fabrication issues, and installation challenges.
  • Mentor and review work of Junior and Mid-Level Detailers, providing feedback and technical guidance.
  • Prepare material take-offs, cut files, and part files, ensuring drawing packages are complete and aligned with production workflow.
  • Participate in project kickoff, technical review, and handoff meetings to coordinate across departments.
  • Identify and implement improvements to drafting processes, templates, and documentation standards.
  • Communicate proactively with Fabrication, Paint, and Scenic departments to ensure production success.
