POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. Commissioning Manager will lead a team of commissioning managers, engineers and technicians, overseeing the commissioning activities of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. Acting as the primary technical liaison with clients and EPC partners during commissioning, this role involves planning, executing, and managing all commissioning tasks, as well as resolving daily issues.
The Senior Commissioning Manager will collaborate closely with project and product engineering teams and may be required to travel to project sites for hands-on commissioning activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Must speak Spanish.
  • Minimum 7 years of technical experience in industries such as Substation, Solar EPC, Engineering,
  • Energy Storage, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of team management experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of commissioning experience.
  • Prior battery system experience is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of power system installation, design phase engineering, local jurisdiction
  • requirements, scheduling, and system layout.
  • Proficiency in scheduling tools like Microsoft Project or Smartsheet.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for drafting work instructions.
  • Ability to simplify complex scenarios for management with sound judgment and decision- making
  • abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and visual).
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven judgment and decision-making skills, especially in crisis situations.
  • Independent thinking, initiative, and creativity.
  • Flexibility for off-hours work and travel as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive commissioning plans, including resource allocation, logistics, and
  • scheduling.
  • Create and implement quality inspection and commissioning procedures.
  • Serve as the on-site lead for commissioning and acceptance testing.
  • Conduct daily commissioning meetings and update progress schedules.
  • Supervise a team of commissioning engineers and technicians (4-5 direct reports).
  • Assign team members to specific projects and organize overall commissioning activities.
  • Standardize commissioning processes and ensure proper documentation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on testing protocols, ensuring compliance with market rules, utility
  • requirements, and contracts.
  • Oversee safe commissioning and acceptance testing, including:
  • Controls and communication networks
  • Balance of plant relay protection, metering, and MV/LV electrical systems
  • PCS, batteries, EMS, auxiliary systems (fire detection, HMI, UPS)
  • Create detailed commissioning and testing reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement by capturing technical problem-solving knowledge.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities including service reports, issue logging, job safety
  • analysis, and quality compliance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors.
  • Lead weekly team meetings, resolve conflicts, and act as a mediator.
  • Provide regular updates in client meetings regarding engineering status and issues.
  • Travel up to 50% and remain on-site for two to three weeks at a time during commissioning.
