JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Works under the direction of Dir Safety, Environment of Care & Emergency Mgmtand is responsible for monitoring and improving the Environment of Care and Safety program at a hospital campus. Monitors and maintains the hospitals compliance with JCAHO, OSHA, EPA and state and local regulations pertaining to safety, fire safety and environmental protection.

Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

Field of Study: a safety related discipline / Industrial Hygiene and 3 Years of Experience in the management of healthcare safety. Recent Life safety Code certificate, Experience in the application of JCAHO Environment of Care standards, Excellent computer skills. years of healthcare safety management Experience may be substituted for / BS degree

Responsibilities

Responsible for oversight of the EC and Safety Program at a hospital campus, conducts proactive risk assessment and identifies performance improvement opportunities, monitors key safety control measures for that campus and responds to deviations in performance. May develop safety plans or programs to be used across the hospital system.

Provides oversight for the hospital risk assessment and emergency preparedness program. Develops, conducts and documents drills and exercises designed to evaluate the organization’s preparedness. Develops emergency action plans. Acts as a resource to the hospital leadership team during emergency plan implementations. Responds to Emergencies when on duty and as required during off duty hours. Represents the organization on community emergency preparedness committees.

Designs and conducts employee safety training. Identifies training needs as a result of risk assessments, new regulations or incident reviews.

Conducts general safety and life safety inspections of facilities and compliance audits of safety and environmental policy and programs. Documents deficiencies or performance gaps and develops plans for improvement resulting in a safety and environmental compliance program with a high degree of integrity.

Oversee the Hazardous Chemical Waste Program including, handling, packing and documentation of the chemical waste. Inspection and maintaining regulatory documentation of hazardous storage and accumulation sites. Works as liaison with chemical waste vendor resulting in an EPA compliant program

Conducts personal and environmental exposure monitoring as determined by schedule and need. Communicates results to the customer department per OSHA requirements, and maintains required documentation.

Coordinates the overall Fire Extinguisher, Inspection and Maintenance Program in Accordance with NFPA 10 and OSHA Regulations. a Ensures all Fire Extinguishers are inspected monthly b Audits Program for compliance c Maintains inventory and inspection documents d Replaces used or non-compliant Fire Extinguishers A. S. A. P. e Review Fire Extinguisher placement to ensure appropriate for Hazards.
