  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, project management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in reading, understanding, and developing conveyor layouts.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to foster relationships with team members and customers for effective problem-solving.
  • Proficient in using computers, interpreting engineering drawings, and adapting to new systems.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience as a conveyor engineer or in maintenance roles.
  • Strong technical knowledge in process engineering disciplines, including plant layouts, process requirements, throughput, and simulation, specifically in Body, Paint, and General Assembly.
  • Proven experience in project management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and FactoryCAD, with the ability to create and modify designs.
  • Familiarity with NX software or a general awareness of its applications.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

The Conveyor Engineer is responsible for the installation and operational activities of manufacturing conveyor equipment into manufacturing facilities per Industry and GM standards, understanding of the layout development process to support manufacturing processes, drive lean concepts to lowest total cost in design, support equipment alternatives, support integration of plant floor workstation layouts with conveyor layout activities, support of material presentation considerations for operator assembly, installation of conveyors necessary for production.
Additionally, the Conveyor Engineer will receive on-the job training with a senior conveyor engineer, be responsible for multiple plants, project assignments, increase scale of projects, and understand the integrated supplier model.
Responsible for the development, project timing, and financial management. Work with multiple groups both within and outside to lead project requirements. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Execute complex conveyor projects, including engineering, fabrication, installation, and start-up in GM assembly plants across North America.
  • Lead multiple conveyor projects and equipment installations, ensuring compliance with GM standards and safety requirements.
  • Develop project timelines and manage financial aspects of conveyor execution.
  • Collaborate with teams of engineers and suppliers to support project execution and resolve operational issues.
  • Drive lean conveyor designs to minimize total costs while supporting material presentation for assembly.
  • Utilize standard GM documentation throughout the execution process and ensure adherence to GM conveyor specifications and standards
  • Generate technical solutions for conveyor challenges and track deliverables to ensure timely completion.
