SUMMARY: The Sr. Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines and architectures to support construction industry-specific analytics and business intelligence initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, cloud technologies, and data visualization tools, as well as a deep understanding of construction project workflows, cost optimization, and operational efficiency. This role will work on-site 5 days per week in Escondido, CA, collaborating with cross-functional teams to leverage data as a strategic asset, enhancing decision-making across the organization.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python or Scala.
  • Extensive experience with cloud-based data warehouse platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
  • Experience with modern data pipeline tools such as dbt, Airflow, Informatica, or Talend.
  • Cloud Platforms: Expertise in AWS, Azure, or GCP for data storage and processing.
  • Visualization Tools: Proficiency in Power BI and Briq for interactive reporting. Familiarity with other tools, such as Tableau or Looker a plus.

INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Preferred: Background in construction, energy, or industrial services industry.
  • Preferred: Experience working with enterprise applications such as Procore, BuildOps, Spectrum, Salesforce, or Dayforce.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with construction project lifecycle stages, cost codes, and equipment telematics.
  • Preferred: Experience working with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and project management software.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, or related field.
  • 6 years of professional experience in data engineering, preferably in the construction industry, with at least 2 years in a senior-level capacity.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud platforms or data engineering are a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Data Architecture & Strategy: Define and implement scalable data architecture strategies that support enterprise reporting, analytics, and future AI/ML initiatives. Ensure alignment with data governance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Data Collection and Integration: Extract data from various construction sources, including project management systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, estimating and bidding software, BIM and virtual construction systems, Human Capital Management (HCM) systems, and site monitoring tools, and consolidate it into a unified repository.
  • Data Cleaning and Transformation: Clean, structure, and normalize raw construction data to ensure accuracy and consistency, addressing missing values and outliers.
  • Data Pipeline Development: Develop and maintain scalable ETL processes for efficient data movement into data warehouses and lakes.
  • Data Modeling and Design: Create robust data models representing construction project elements, such as schedules, costs, and resources, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Advanced Analytics Development: Collaborate with data analysts and stakeholders to deliver dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights into project performance, risk management, and cost forecasting.
  • Research and Innovation: Continuously research emerging technologies to optimize data engineering practices in construction workflows.
