About This Role We're seeking a Data Platform Engineer II to join our team and contribute to building the foundational infrastructure that powers our data ecosystem. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment where you'll work alongside experienced engineers to support our data platforms. You'll focus on implementing well-defined solutions while developing your skills in platform engineering and cloud infrastructure. We are in the process of a legacy migration to a new cloud-first approach. What You'll Do Platform Support & Implementation • Contribute to specific areas of the data platform codebase under guidance • Implement Infrastructure as Code components following established patterns • Support CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure with oversight from senior engineers • Assist with monitoring setup and respond to alerts under supervision Infrastructure & Automation • Write scripts and automation for routine platform tasks • Participate in infrastructure deployment under guidance • Help maintain documentation for platform components • Contribute to KTLO (keep the lights on) tasks and maintenance work Learning & Growth • Learn data platform architecture and cloud infrastructure patterns • Develop proficiency with our technology stack and engineering processes • Participate in code reviews to learn best practices • Shadow incident response to understand platform operations What You Bring Technical Foundation • Working knowledge of Python for scripting and basic automation • Basic SQL skills and understanding of database concepts • Familiarity with Linux/Unix command line • Exposure to at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) • Understanding of version control systems like Git Experience & Background • 1-3 years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related field • Some exposure to infrastructure automation or platform engineering concepts • Academic knowledge or limited practical experience with data systems • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment Collaboration & Work Style • Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn from others • Ability to work collaboratively within your immediate team • Comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance when needed • Interest in understanding how your work fits into larger systems Bonus Points • Exposure to Docker or container technologies • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts (Terraform, CloudFormation) • Basic understanding of Kafka or other streaming technologies • Interest in data orchestration tools like Airflow What Success Looks Like First 90 Days: Complete onboarding, understand our data platform architecture, and begin contributing to well-defined tasks with guidance from your mentor or manager. First Year: Demonstrate consistent contributions to the platform, follow team processes reliably, and show growing independence in handling standard tasks. Begin participating meaningfully in sprint planning. Ongoing: Continue developing expertise across multiple areas of the codebase, reduce supervision needs, and prepare for increased ownership of platform components.
