The Sr Data Scientist I will play a pivotal role in advancing the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) and machine learning solutions within a clinical research ecosystem. You will optimize, fine-tune, and operationalize AI models to enhance predictive, generative, and retrieval-augmented tasks, translating complex research challenges into scalable, high-impact solutions. Working closely with data engineering, product, and domain teams, you will implement robust model pipelines, evaluate performance, and ensure reproducibility and compliance. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely across the U.S. while contributing to innovative AI solutions that accelerate clinical research outcomes and improve human health. Accountabilities: Optimize, fine-tune, and evaluate large language models (LLMs) using proprietary datasets to improve precision, recall, and contextual relevance. Collaborate with data engineering, product, and domain teams to implement scalable, model-driven solutions. Develop and operationalize retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems for research-focused AI applications. Build and maintain workflows for model training, evaluation, and deployment using Databricks, MLflow, and Delta Lake. Translate research and operational challenges into measurable evaluation frameworks and optimization strategies. Document methodologies, results, and reproducible pipelines to support governance and audit readiness. MS in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and fine-tuning ML or LLM models. Strong proficiency in Python and experience with frameworks like PyTorch. Experience managing workflows in Databricks and applying machine learning best practices. Knowledge of embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and the ML lifecycle. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams. Preferred: PhD in a related discipline, experience with causal inference, simulation modeling, or graph-based reasoning in clinical or biomedical research. Competitive base salary: $130,000 - $168,000, depending on experience and location. Eligibility for variable bonus in addition to base salary. Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage. Paid holidays and generous time off policies. Remote work flexibility across the United States. Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
