Description

PHA Michigan LLC is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join a dynamic supplier engineering team. Components include latches and hinges to window regulators and door modules, and will require strong design and project management skills to support the growth of our company in the US market as well as help advance our global capabilities. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Design, Engineering and Manufacturing Process experience such as stamping, injection molding, cold heading, riveting, machining, fine blanking, insert molding.
  • Specific product experience with body mechanisms including latches, window regulators, power systems, hinges, gas lifters, door checks, etc. or similar components (such as seat mechanisms).
  • Advanced proficiency of industrystandard software (e.g., CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge and experience of customer procedures, release systems and customer relations. Catia CAD design system (solid modeling, kinematics, GPS).
  • Strong communication skills. Communications with PHA Korea design & engineering, Tier 2 suppliers to PHA, etc.
  • Microsoft Office systems for presentations, specification creation/editing and design calculation (Excel).
  • Ability to use standard Quality and Engineering tools such as 8D, 6 sigma, DOE, root cause analysis, FEA, DFMEA, fishbone diagrams/fault tree analysis, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem solve with records of invention and/or industry publications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fastpaced environment.
  • Experience working with or interacting with large global international companies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, business, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 + years of experience in design, engineering, or manufacturing with a Tier 1 supplier to OEM (GM, Ford, Stellantis, etc.) experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel to customer, supplier, or manufacturing sites.
  • Able to lift 25 pounds for prototype and sample handling.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the design and development of components and systems from concept to production for OEM customers.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes for products including, but not limited to, Hood Latches, Endgate Latches, Power/Manual Actuators, Strikers, Endgate Handles, Window Regulators and Door Modules.
  • Ontime release of math and drawings for engineering changes.
  • Analysis of performance, failure modes, and testing requirements and maintenance of engineering documents such as DFMEA, specifications, and design calculations.
  • Timely communications with the customer and engagement of support when needed from PHA HQ engineering and quality teams.
  • Function as point of contact for customer design and engineering (flow through accurately and quickly to other departments within PHA as required).
  • Support of original design generation when needed in support of existing business and new opportunity business.
  • Ability to collaborate with crossfunctional teams (PHA Korea, Sales, Operations), support RFQ’s, design, material, processrelated issues, and customer change requests to meet customer needs and achieve business objectives.
  • Interface with suppliers and negotiation of materials, tolerances, design features, etc. as required.
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interpret customer specifications, technical requirements, and standards.
  • Creating 3D math data, receiving 3D math data from PHA Korea, uploading or retrieving data from customer PLM systems.
  • Maintaining part BOM, design calculations, FMEA documents.
  • Creating/maintaining/updating detailed component drawings including tolerances and GD&T.
  • Creating/developing/packaging study math data for concepts.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentation materials.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
