What You’ll Do
Avalara is seeking a strategic, execution-focused Senior Director to lead AI-driven Finance transformation initiatives through a program management lens. Reporting to the Chief of Staff / VP, Finance Transformation, this newly created role will be responsible for orchestrating and delivering high-impact programs that leverage artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and intelligent automation to modernize Finance operations at scale.
This role is not focused solely on technology implementation—it is about end-to-end program ownership: managing complex, cross-functional initiatives that span process design, systems deployment, stakeholder alignment, and change management. The ideal candidate will bring a disciplined program management mindset to prioritize, structure, and scale transformation initiatives that enable efficiency, compliance, insight, and agility across the Finance organization.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be
Program Strategy & Roadmap - Develop and manage the AI transformation Finance roadmap, ensuring alignment with Avalara’s VCP/Finance Objectives and AOP goals
Program Execution Leadership - Own the end-to-end lifecycle of Finance AI initiatives, including scoping, resourcing, timelines, dependencies, milestones, risk mitigation, and executive reporting.
Cross-Functional Coordination - Partner with stakeholders across Finance Ops, Accounting, FP&A, Procurement, RevOps, IT, Data, and Engineering to ensure cross-functional accountability and delivery.
Portfolio Governance - Define and implement governance frameworks to oversee the AI/automation portfolio—balancing speed with rigor, compliance, and change readiness.
AI Use Case Operationalization - Manage the intake, evaluation, and phased delivery of prioritized use cases, including intelligent forecasting, anomaly detection, automation of journal entries and more.
Technology Enablement Oversight - Collaborate with IT and Engineering teams to ensure enabling technologies (RPA, GenAI, analytics platforms, etc.) are evaluated, integrated, and adopted successfully.
Change & Communications Management - Drive structured change management and communication strategies to ensure stakeholder alignment, user adoption, and cultural buy-in across Finance.
Performance Tracking & KPIs - Establish and track program success metrics (e.g., hours saved, cycle time reduction, data quality, adoption rates) to demonstrate and communicate impact to Finance and enterprise leaders.
Team & Vendor Management - Lead internal teams and external consultants/partners to execute key initiatives, ensuring clarity of roles, quality of deliverables, and alignment with transformation goals.
