POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking an SR. Director of Development to join our team of professionals.

Duties include:

  • Oversees and manages a disciplinary-focused fundraising portfolio of individuals, corporations and foundations, overseeing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. Collaborates with Deans, Center/Institute/Initiative Directors, academic leadership, University faculty, researchers, and administrators to identify, coordinate, and develop strategic funding opportunities.
  • Manages a set portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects capable of making significant gifts in order to secure major gift commitments. Works to individually cultivate existing and new donor relationships with the intent of sustaining and increasing the relationship with the donor and supporting the goals of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM). Plans and implements programs that include measurable targets for each fiscal year.
  • Develops and maintains a productive partnership with academic leads and University administrators to ensure high-level alignment between academic planning and fundraising goals.
  • Supervise additional staff as needed. Ensures development staff cultivates existing and new donor (individuals, corporate and foundation) relationships with the intent of sustaining and increasing the relationship with the donor, according to stated goals and objectives.
  • Provides direct assistance in the development and delivery of development communication materials, such as the college website, donor newsletters, reports, etc.
  • Meets annual goals for personal contacts and annual fundraising goals as established by the leadership team on an annual basis.
  • Monitors progress towards achieving revenue goals. Documents contact and prospect moves, tracks progress using Raiser’s Edge, and adheres to University Advancement prospect management guidelines and protocol.
  • Develops, writes, and edits proposals, stewardship reports, and other development materials, including proposals soliciting significant grants and gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations to support HWCOM’s priorities. Provides direct assistance in the development and delivery of development communication materials, such as the college website, donor newsletters, and reports.
  • Develops cultivation and solicitation strategies and manages relationships that lead to proposals for significant grants and gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations in support of Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine priorities. Provides management-level support for capacity-building projects and initiatives, increasing the productivity and success of the Development team.
  • Develops and advances strategies for enhancing individuals, corporate and foundation support for the academic portfolio and strategic initiatives. Collaborate with team members, Deans, Center/Institute/Initiative Directors, other academic leadership, the FIU Foundation, and prospect managers to identify and pursue strategic funding opportunities to support institutional priorities and research.
  • Effectively communicates the College and University’s key strengths to individuals, corporate and foundation prospects. Actively maintain a working knowledge of the College and University’s key strengths and fundraising opportunities, continuously evaluating fundraising capacity for new strategic initiatives. Additionally, actively maintain current knowledge of faculty research interests and areas of expertise.
  • Collaborates with development staff to maintain knowledge of trends in philanthropy, informing opportunities for support of College and University programs.
  • Serves as a consultant to Deans, Center/Institute/Initiative Directors, academic leadership, and faculty in devising and implementing fundraising strategies for individuals, corporate and foundation support.
  • Handles donated funds in the form of checks or negotiable securities. Accesses confidential information regarding gifts and donors. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality of prospect and donor records. Works closely with the FIU Foundation, University Advancement, and HWCOM Finance Officers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and ten (10) years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields; OR fourteen (14) years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
