The Group Technology Management will be a central knowledge hub within the Damen Group.
The Damen Research, Development and Innovation Department is seeking a n Electrical /Hybrid P ropulsion Engineer for the Group Technology Management New Energy team .

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES .

In the role of Elect rical Propulsion Engineer, you will apply your knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering to provide insights and contribute to the further development of Damen’s product range. In this role you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the implementation of suitable electrical /hybrid engineering principles in ship designs.
You will offer consultative technical advice to business units, guiding them on product functionality, performance, and quality related to electrical and hybrid propulsion system s and the integration thereof on board .
You will have the responsibility to intensively document your knowledge and experience in Best Practice information and add this to the knowledge database for further use within the Damen organisation .
Within the Damen organisation it’s important to have good communication skills in order to build a network. Stakeholdermanagement is an important part of this function.
These responsibilities highlight how important your role is in advancing Damen’s technological push and pull, contributing to the dynamic and forward-thinking attitude of the Research & Development Department.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE .

To excel in the role of Electrical Propulsion Engineer and to fit our team of professionals you preferably possess :

  • Minimal a HBO degree in Electrical or Mechatronic s Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience ;
  • A basic understanding of (MB)SE principles to support the ability to design and implement electrical or hybrid propulsion systems for ships, which includes the power & energy management control systems and also battery systems ;
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with specialists from diverse fields, including mechanics, hydromechanics, and data science ;
  • The ability to translate executed solutions and experiences into “Best Practices” for usage in (near) future.
  • The ability to judge requirements and specifications to outsource the propulsion systems and to assess and judge the delivery of the supplier;
  • An independent and flexible attitude ;
  • Communicative ;
  • Pro-active attitude;
  • A high level of proficiency in English, both verbally and in writing.

These qualifications will not only ensure success in providing expert technical advice but also contribute to the collaborative and innovative culture within Damen’s Research & Development Department.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE .

The New Energy team is new to Damen RD&I and currently in the forming phase.
You will be part of a small and growing diverse and multidisciplinary team of event ually 4 - 6 propulsion engineers , specialists in their field of expertise . In consultation with other engineers, you will provide expert technical advice related to electrical and hybrid propulsion system , based on proven solutions , lessons learnt and the use of Best Practices and standards.
A n electrical propulsion engineer is eager to understand the complexity of new technology and is naturally curious to learn new ways of working and new technologies . As such, you will collaborate with D&P colleagues , supporting the implementation of the correct propulsion system in ship designs while ensuring the proper application of fundamental principles of relevant technologies. You can be asked to be participating in project teams in the operational phase , in Basic Engineering , c ommissioning and testing phase , to ensure that the right solution is implemented , based on available knowledge within the organi s ation and based on Best Practices and standards that are applicable.
In addition to the above mentioned activities, you will initiate promot ing proven solutions to standards that can be used within the Damen Group .
The role comprehends to keep track of the developments of electrical /hybrid dri ves, also outside the maritime industry .
Close collaboration with relevant stakeholders within and outside the Damen group, such as Design & Proposal, Engineering, Services, Production, and Damen Clients and suppliers, is part of your daily work.
