Description

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation’s war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today’s missions and tomorrow’s global challenges.
The Sr. Electro-Optical/Infrared Engineer will project manage, perform technical work, in the development of unique electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) systems to support the USAF Test & Evaluation (T&E) mission. This involves technical oversight from system inception to operation; to include requirements development, modeling & simulation, acquisition, validation, verification, operation, and sustainment. The primary mission requirements are to identify EO/IR T&E capability gaps, arrive at effective and feasible solutions, work well with vendors towards implementation, provide oversight throughout system development and testing, innovate new solutions, network with academia, industry, and other agencies. TS/SCI, SAP access is required to meet mission needs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with optical systems test, optical test equipment, and optical test components for passive and/or active optical systems
  • Perform image processing and/or image analysis software, as they relate to ground, air, or space systems
  • Experience performing radiometric measurements
  • Experience modeling, simulating, and analysis EO/IR systems
  • Proficiency with image processing and/or image analysis software
  • Experience with proper handling of ESD sensitive parts, including PCB cards
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, and a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and 14 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in engineering and a minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering and a minimum of 8 years of related engineering experience are required for this position.

In addition, an Engineer V must possess the following qualifications:

  • Well-established, substantial, professional reputation in one or more of the principal technical disciplines of the company
  • Demonstrated ability to direct senior technical personnel in project assignments involving research, development, integration, and sustainment of complex systems or processes
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools
  • Superior communications skills, both verbal and written, in day-to-day project activities as well as in briefing customers and in writing reports and proposals
  • Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines
  • Must be eligible for a government security clearance
  • Must have a valid, state-issued driver’s license
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop plans and procedures for the integration, characterization, and test of complex electro-optical test products
  • Lead & develop system specifications, including design verification methods, calibration, and test procedures for electro-optical test systems; leads the execution of EO system test
  • Execute tests, collect and analyze test data to optimize performance, support system design enhancements
  • Perform system performance modeling, tolerance, and requirements flow down analysis to show performance compliance in support of development, characterization, and test of new deliverable test systems
  • Work with Software Engineers to help develop infrared/visible camera tests, laser tests, and test equipment control for both deliverable and in-house test equipment
  • Document changes made to hardware and deviations from standard procedures as necessary
  • Perform concept design and analysis to support potential new customer applications
  • Demonstrate a deep knowledge of optical and electrical measurement instrumentation, such as theodolites, interferometers, spectrometers, infrared cameras, microscopes, multimeters, and/or oscilloscopes
  • Excellent hardware trouble-shooting capability, analytical skills, physical modeling, simulation, & analysis
  • Set priorities and organize incoming projects
  • Communicate system requirements, testing needs, debugging information, and design concepts with other engineering disciplines
  • Perform systems engineering on EO/IR hardware development by establishing, maintaining, and flowing down requirements; leading and executing trade studies, failure mode and root cause and corrective action analysis, product lifecycle support, test plan and procedure development, and system test execution
