Description

SR. ENGINEER - INTEGRATED PHOTONICS DESIGN

Location: San Jose
As an integrated photonics design engineer, you will push the envelope of bandwidth density, energy efficiency, and manufacturability of our silicon photonics optical I/O platform, removing the bottlenecks limiting next-generation AI and advanced compute architectures. You will work as part of a small team in a fast-paced, dynamic startup culture, dedicated to the principle that we will succeed and grow by constantly reinventing ourselves.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 4+ years experience (research or commercial) developing electro-optic systems
  • Proficiency with Python, experience writing well-structured code and developing a code base as part of a team
  • Deep understanding of photonic devices: couplers, photodetectors, electro-optic modulators, micro-ring resonators, gratings
  • Experienced with simulation and design tools for passive and active optical devices (e.g., FDTD, charge transport)
  • Experience with silicon-on-insulator and nitride fabrication processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Optical Engineer, EE or related field
  • Experience taking an opto-electronic product to market: design, debug and validation
  • Experience with statistical analysis of test data, DOE methods
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic test and electro-optic instruments: bit-error-rate testing, automated alignment, polarization controller, spectrum analyzer, waveform generator, reflectometer, etc.
  • Experience with Design Validation Testing and handoff to manufacturing
  • Familiarity with optical transceiver principles, transmission formats, and industry trends
  • Experience with RF systems and measurements
  • Familiar with packaging of electro-optical fiber-optic modules
  • Familiar with databases and automating data pipelines
  • Familiar with electro-optic reliability modeling and testing
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, optical, packaging)
    Annual salary range: $150,000 - $192,000
Responsibilities
  • Design the high-performance integrated photonic components needed for an aggressive optical I/O product roadmap
  • Analyze test data to enable device performance and product yield
  • Build data infrastructure: extend custom code base for layout, analysis, and automated checking
  • Collaborate with teams developing laser, packaging, firmware, and circuits to ensure product success
  • Define and validate compact models; utilize and extend system link-model for device optimization
  • Work with foundry and OSAT partners to understand process limitations, excursions, and opportunities for new process development
