POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join our Caldwell team. This role is central to the success of our operations, responsible for preparing and overseeing cost estimates for large-scale electrical utility construction projects, particularly those in Transmission & Distribution (T&D).
The ideal candidate brings deep industry knowledge, accuracy in estimating, and the ability to mentor junior estimators while collaborating cross-functionally with project managers, and clients.
What You’ll Do:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) estimating within the utility or electrical construction sector.
  • Strong foundation in construction cost estimating for electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Projects).
  • Familiarity with estimating software and digital take-off tools is preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of industry practices, construction methods, and cost control strategies.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints, drawings, and plan & profiles
  • Pre-qualification with specified clients.
  • Analyze and interpret detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Perform budget pricing from schematic drawings and narrative.
  • Draft scope letters, proposals and vendor solicitations.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, collaborations and conferences with clients and design professionals.
  • Support the department leader with the functioning of the Estimating Department, ongoing development and maintenance of computerized estimating programs and databases.
  • Work under deadline pressures in an efficient, composed and calm manner.
  • Work alongside other estimators, project managers and project engineers on change orders and cost to complete estimates of ongoing projects.
  • Determine appropriate construction methods for bidding purposes.
  • Additional duties as assigned by management.

Scope Review & Analysis

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and RFPs to assess scope, complexity, and deliverables.
  • Interpret technical documentation and determine estimating requirements.

Cost Estimating & Budgeting

  • Prepare and oversee detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and maintain comprehensive cost databases.
  • Evaluate pre-approval budgets and construction narratives.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with project managers, and clients to ensure estimates are aligned and competitive.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, client discussions, and design reviews.
  • Develop scope letters, bid proposals, and vendor solicitations.

Project Support & Compliance

  • Support project execution teams with pricing, scope clarifications, and cost-control insights.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing change orders and cost-to-complete estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior estimators.
  • Promote best practices in estimating and help foster team growth and development.
