Job Title: Senior Financial Analyst (SFA)
Location : 3 days hybrid, Toronto
Employment Type : 6 months contract
Position Summary
The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) will play a critical role in ensuring effective oversight of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR). The position supports the certification process by reviewing documentation, assessing testing results for internal controls, and providing recommendations to strengthen IFRS financial reporting compliance. This role will assist in planning testing cycles, performing walkthroughs, executing risk assessments, and preparing key reports for senior management.
As part of a collaborative effort with stakeholders, the SFA will also provide guidance on risk management, develop remediation plans, and promote sound risk practices across the organization. The SFA must demonstrate strong expertise in evaluating operational effectiveness, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and contributing to the overall success of ICFR processes.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the enhancement and maintenance of the ICFR program, including risk identification, process mapping, and control documentation.
Conduct walkthroughs to evaluate the design effectiveness of key control processes within the organization.
Perform testing of the operating effectiveness of controls, with a focus on identifying and addressing key areas of risk.
Partner with process owners to refine ICFR risk and control matrices while developing a deep understanding of business operations from the ground up.
Analyze control deficiencies to identify root causes and suggest actionable improvements.
Prepare and present clear, concise testing summaries, reporting results to line management, senior management, and the ICFR Committee.
Support the development, maintenance, and monitoring of financial compliance processes under the guidance of the ICFR Manager.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives targeting system enhancements, improved documentation standards, or operational efficiencies.
Monitor and assess regulatory and industry shifts that may impact the organization’s financial reporting risks.
Collaborate with process owners to provide advisory support on creating, maintaining, and enhancing internal controls.
Conduct effective challenge reviews on changes affecting internal controls to ensure organizational readiness and compliance.
Support finance teams by documenting, developing, and maintaining Regulatory Compliance Matrices (RCM) and operational effectiveness initiatives like RCSA & BERAT.
Cultivate strong working relationships with cross-functional groups, including control functions, auditors, and senior stakeholders, to promote a culture of risk awareness.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
CPA or equivalent professional designation is mandatory .
Minimum 4+ years of experience, SOX compliance, IFRS reporting internal audit, or external auditing required.
Exposure to the financial services industry is highly desirable.
Hands-on experience addressing key financial reporting risks and controls preferred.
Strong understanding of risk assessment, internal controls, and compliance frameworks.
Ability to perform root cause analysis and formulate data-driven corrective actions.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and consultative skills with a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.
Proven ability to independently manage priorities, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality project deliverables.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Workday), financial reporting tools (e.g., OneStream), and analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI) preferred.
