Description

Purpose: Works as part of a team with up to 27 team members; possible deployment may be required to other sites to perform inspections on equipment that is either being issued out to or returned from using Units; overtime work hours may be required. Performs organizational, intermediate level maintenance/modifications on military equipment such as: M1A2 tanks, M2A2/M3A3 Bradley fighting vehicles, M109 A6/7 Howitzers, M88A2, ABV assault vehicles; sub-systems, support equipment such as mine plows, rollers, and other related items. Will also be working on the Light tracks M113 Family of vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Diagnoses system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies.
  • Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TM).
  • Understand repair vs replacement of major end items. Lowest level or repair.
  • Inspects, repairs, and replaces components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.
  • Identifies parts in repair manuals and places order request for needed parts.
  • Performs annual service on equipment fleet.
  • Performs road test on vehicles after repairs and services have been completed.
  • Can mentor and teach subordinate mechanics to improve technical ability.
  • Able to read and understand hydraulic and electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Experience in hose fabrication and repair.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a daily timesheet and daily manning report and ensuring times are accurate.
  • All APS-2 contractor mechanics are required to provide their own basic mechanics tool set.

Qualification & Experience Requirements: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a mechanic is required.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must have the ability to analyze and interpret U.S. Army Technical Manuals with relation to vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Will be required to obtain a military driver’s license (OF 346).
