This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in employment law, particularly within a fast-paced, retail environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to operate optimally in an ambiguous and flexible environment and will be familiar with retail, distribution, and corporate employee populations.

Responsibilities
  • Employment Law Expertise: Provide legal counsel on employment-related matters, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, leaves of absence and compliance with state-specific employment laws.
  • State-Specific Knowledge: Possess in-depth knowledge of employment laws with a heavy emphasis on Colorado, Nevada, Ohio, and Massachusetts, as well as remote employees in other states.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build trust and influence with cross-functional departments, including HR and commercial teams, to ensure alignment and compliance with employment regulations.
  • Global Perspective: While the primary focus is on North America, preferred candidates will have some knowledge of global employment practices and regulations (and be open to learn more).
  • Retail Environment Experience: Demonstrate experience supporting a company with retail locations, understanding the unique challenges and dynamics of high-volume retail and distribution populations.
  • Ambiguity and Flexibility: Thrive in an ambiguous and flexible environment, adapting to changing circumstances and providing clear, actionable legal advice.
  • Document Review and Drafting: Review, draft, and negotiate various legal documents, including employment agreements, restrictive covenants, commercial contracts, and workplace policies.
  • Litigation Management: Manage employment related litigation, as well as public government inquiries and audits.
