JOB DESCRIPTION

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin, TX or Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business if more than 3 days].

YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • 10 + years of experience in design and implementation of advanced geospatial and mapping data products
  • Proven experience in location-based services with a deep understanding of geospatial data engineering, object stores, methodologies , s oftware architecture, and deploying location-based services to the onboard vehicle applications as well as the cloud infrastructure / systems
  • 10+ years of experience in location-based services software development ( MapBox , OpenStreet Maps, ARCGIS, Postgres, Parquet , Python, C)
  • 3+ years of managing highly performant teams of approximately 6 - 10+ engineers
  • Strong knowledge of mapping data structures/tiling
  • A p assion for innovation and continuous improvement , and a desire to push the boundaries of customer-facing mapping technology
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities and requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to process a high volume of work with high complexity with nonstandard solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality results
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders

    Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

Compensation:

  • The expected base compensation for this role is: $219,000 - $336,200. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Geospatial Manager/Engineer to lead our Location-based Services team. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert with a strong technical background in geospatial and mapping systems. In this role, you will guide the team and provide thought leadership in research, design, deployment, and launch of advanced location-based services and mapping products. We are looking for an innovative continuous learner and collaborative problem solver who is driven to take ideas to production.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • As a subject matter expert on geospatial data, data objects and stores, and location-based services software product engineering, provide guidance and support to internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Lead a team of ~12 location-based services engineers with developing software architecture, tools, and processes, and oversee the design, development, and validation of location-based services solutions, ensuring accuracy and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, program management, and engineering teams to ensure the successful delivery of LBS projects
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations and standards in geospatial data management, consumption and delivery, ensuring compliance in all products and initiatives
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and new technology, and educate the global team
  • Grow, mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth
  • Provide long-term strategic direction of the Location-based Services platform and the convergence with gm.maps as a central mapping service to General Motors internal and external customers
  • Engage with and influence senior directors in setting the technical and product strategic for the provision of location-based and mapping services
  • Drive innovation and research in LBS product development methodologies
