Description The Sr. Manager, Product Support Engineer is responsible for the developing Product Support Engineering (aka Sustaining Engineering). This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building and scaling our Product Support Engineering capabilities. The position owns engineering for released, commercial products, ensuring their performance, quality, reliability, and manufacturability throughout the product lifecycle. It is a high-visibility, central leadership role suited for someone who thrives on building teams, processes, and best practices from the ground up; and scaling them effectively. This role serves as the production engineering hub between QA, R&D, Manufacturing, and Operations. Core Job Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Execution Incorporate field learnings, quality feedback, and product optimizations into future product development best practices Develop and maintain clear 3–6 month operating plans for leadership and the Product Support Engineering team Build team capability to resolve the majority of field and production issues, with escalation support from R&D as needed Be hands-on initially, directly resolving complex Product Support Engineering issues as the function is established Team Management & Scaling Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers with strong emphasis on performance management, coaching, and career growth Own hiring strategy and execution—identify technical gaps and recruit top-tier talent to build a world-class team Foster a culture of technical rigor, accountability, psychological safety, and constructive challenge Strategic & Cross-Functional Partnership Partner closely with Regulatory, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality to align engineering execution with business priorities Develop cross-functionally viable processes for addressing design-related field and production issues Support Manufacturing on Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) improvements Own resource planning, capacity management, and realistic timeline forecasting, balancing speed, risk, and technical debt Support the procurement and qualification of critical manufacturing equipment Support onboarding of new vendors and contract partners Partner with Sourcing on re-sourcing, cost-down initiatives, and obsolescence mitigation Own and drive cost-of-goods and cost-of-services reduction programs Required Qualifications: Technical Depth: B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with strong understanding of Hardware, Firmware, Software, and Manufacturing integration Experience: 8+ years in Product Support Engineering, Hardware Development, or related discipline, with 2+ years of direct people management Can be an equivalent combination of education and professional experience Designer–Builder Mindset: Demonstrated ability to establish scalable engineering processes while staying personally engaged in execution New Product Introduction Expertise: Proven experience bringing at least four complex products from concept through sustained production with strong understanding of design controls Compliance Comfort: Ability to operate effectively in a regulatory-constrained environment while leading with first-principles engineering Communication: Exceptional ability to translate technical risk into business impact for executive leadership Required Physical Requirements: Ability and willingness to travel domestically to designated supplier sites (estimated 5 – 10 trips per year), which may include weekend and overnight stays Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms Required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 20 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, vision to monitor, and moderate noise levels Compensation: $176,000 - $238,100* *Base pay is one part of your total compensation. The salary offered will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to your experience, knowledge, skills, location, internal equity, and market alignment. Addition compensation may include bonuses and equity, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
