The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Manager, Research Laboratory to work at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, FL.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Manager, Research Laboratory provides scientific support and assistance to research laboratories, including all critical and basic laboratory operations. Moreover, the incumbent plans and implements overall laboratory policies, procedures, and services in furtherance of departmental and institutional goals and objectives. This Lab Manager will be a key member of the Molecular Therapeutics Shared Resource (MTSR) of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC).

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
A Ph.D. degree is required, preferably in the biological sciences, with a minimum of 2 years post-doctoral experience, and a total of at least 5 years of experience in a biomedical research laboratory or core facility preferred.
Experience:
Experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., quantitative real-time PCR, western blots, and ELISA immunoassays) is preferred. Experience with pharmacology, cancer, drug discovery, small molecule screening or related disciplines in academia or pharma is preferred. Experience with preparing publications and research grants is preferred. Record of achievement for delivery of team goals and experience in building successful relations with supervisors, peers, suppliers, customers, partners and stakeholders, are essential. This position requires ability to troubleshoot, meticulous record keeping, and the ability to supervise and motivate staff. Must enjoy working with others, have initiative, and be reliable. Attention to detail and multitasking abilities are critical, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent computer and communication skills are required. Prefer strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with proven ability to apply creative approaches to complicated questions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment with molecular biologists, pharmacologists, chemists, engineers, and bioinformaticians.
  • Track record of prioritizing multiple, complex, high priority tasks and ensuring timely delivery to meet research project needs.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing new operational procedures in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team.
  • Management skills appropriate for a diverse staff, large user base and high throughput environment.
