The Collins Aerospace Mission Systems Strategic Communications Solutions (SCS) engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Level Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, integration, and installation of large subsystem equipment (such as racks and larger, more unique items) and associated cables/support equipment on to customer airborne platforms. This individual should be knowledgeable in the analyses (weight & balance, structural, aerodynamics, etc.) required at a platform level and preferably have hands-on experience with the integration and installation of equipment onto customer platforms. The selected candidate will work closely with Systems, Software, Qualification, Manufacturing, and Installation engineering to ensure requirements are met during all phases of a product’s lifecycle.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Background in aircraft systems integration and/or subsystems integration.
  • Apply best practices with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. (Preferred: SolidWorks or similar)

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Top Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to security investigations/reinstatements and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Active possession of an active U.S. government issued Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Knowledge of A-Kit electromechanical design, including the applicability of SAE AS50881.
  • Knowledge of relevant testing methods, such as RTCA DO-160 or MIL-STD-810.
  • Knowledge of relevant military standards such as MIL-STD-1472.
  • Can apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Direct experience working on aircraft or ground based military platforms.
  • Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design/implementation of sophisticated architectural systems.
  • Knowledge of commercial and military electronics packaging form factors, chassis and electromechanical design, and analysis methods.
  • Experience with ruggedization techniques for commercial hardware.
  • Experience working with and managing sub-contractors.
  • Familiar with best practices of and can perform thermal and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA). (Ansys or similar)
  • Working knowledge of Agile development methods for hardware.
  • Either familiar with or preferably experienced with Control Account Management (CAM) and earned value management system (EVMS) techniques.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Plan, analyze, design, test, and document hardware of high complexity and contribute to system integration.
  • Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members.
  • Be self-sufficient in determining the necessary equipment and requirements of installing and integrating complex mechanical systems and components.
  • Contribute to a greater team with the planning and execution of the integration and installation of equipment on military platforms, such as fixed wing aircraft or jets.
  • Contribute to testing activities to verify product requirements compliance.
  • Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews. Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to both members of own team and beyond.
  • Work proactively and in a self-driven manner with an integrated product team (IPT) to manage project scope and budget, as well as identify risks and opportunities.
