JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at a leading automation integration company in Wyoming, Michigan. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and integration of custom automation machinery and robotic systems. This position involves leading mechanical design projects, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating across departments to deliver world-class automation solutions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree a plus).
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in automation, robotics, or special machinery.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, robotics, and motion control.
  • Experience with GD&T, FEA, and mechanical design for manufacturing (DFM).
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of custom machinery, industrial robotics, motion control, and PLC/HMI programming.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in an automation integrator or custom machine builder environment.
  • Knowledge of industrial robotics (e.g., FANUC, ABB, YASKAWA, KUKA) and machine safety standards (ISO, ANSI, OSHA).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and project documentation practices.
  • Hands-on experience with machine build, debug, and installation is a plus
  • Experience working at an automation integrator or custom machine builder.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design and development of custom automation machines, robotic systems, and tooling.
  • Work closely with controls engineers, project managers, and the assembly team to ensure design feasibility and performance.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor).
  • Perform engineering calculations and simulations to validate designs for performance, strength, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers and designers.
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and internal quality procedures.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of issues during machine build, testing, and customer acceptance.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to understand application requirements and present design concepts.
