SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Planning Engineer the purpose of this role is to produce safe, operable, strategic mine plans that align with business objectives, will assist with capital studies, and will provide engineering support and technical recommendations for key future development programs. Your contributions will help ensure ongoing success of Keno Hill’s ability to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

ABOUT US

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.1 million ounces of silver in 2025.
The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering.
  • Must be able to register for a P.Eng in the Yukon Territory.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in various engineering roles in underground mining operations.
  • 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership position (managing 3 or more people).
  • Experience in narrow vein mining and ground control background will be considered an asset.
  • Above average skills in Deswik required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) to operational and technical levels.
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract

WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE

This is a fly-in fly-out position based at a remote mining camp, operating on a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off. Camp accommodations and meals are provided while on site. All travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs.
To ensure efficient travel logistics, we are primarily seeking candidates who reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta, particularly near major transportation centers within these regions.

Responsibilities

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THIS ROLE:

  • Demonstrate safety leadership within a team environment and promote environmental awareness in all work or task related duties.
  • Lead and coordinate mine engineering activities including planning, design, ground control, surveying, ventilation, and drill & blast.
  • Coordinate inputs from Geology, Mine Operations and Mill Operations to produce effective plans and designs.
  • Analyze and interpret mine plan and mine design to ensure alignment with operational objectives.
  • Oversee data and statistical inputs from survey results, recovery results, etc. to adjust plan accordingly.
  • Control and monitor the work of mining activities by checking the state of progress on the field, compliance of the plans and specifications issued and analyzing the results of completed work.
  • Manage capital and mine improvement projects as required.
  • Perform technical and economic analysis of mine plans and designs.
  • Develop 3 month to 2-year mine plans.
  • Evaluate trade-offs and recommend solutions.
  • Ensure month end, weekly, and daily production reports be issued accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain Mine Site quality control processes and procedures.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, planners, and EITs within the team as necessary.
  • You will help to promote a strong environmental culture, promoting and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.
  • You will help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.
