JOB SUMMARY

The Sr Mold Designer is responsible for collaborating with engineering teams to understand mold requirements, and designing high quality, high precision injection mold tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience collaborating with Engineering, Production and Sales to identify solutions to cost improvements and to ensure all changes are properly documented
  • Demonstrated knowledge of deferent classes of Plastic injection molds
  • Experience with mold design software (SolidWorks, Moldflow)
  • Able to effectively communicate with Mold shop, design Engineers and mold makers
  • Knowledge of electrodes and mold making materials
  • Knowledge of CNC operation
  • Assist in troubleshooting and root cause investigations
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the position
  • Interface with all internal departments
  • Experience with mechanical actions including side actions and lifters

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with CNC programming (e.g. MasterCam);
  • EDM electrode design experience
  • Knowledge of material selection to minimize mold wear;
  • Certifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing and walking. Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities. Some local travel is necessary, so the ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities
  • Interfaces with design engineers and process engineers on understanding and determining requirements of machined, molded and cast parts and assemblies.
  • Determines material selection, sizing, etc. based on identified design specifications.
  • Design high quality, high precision injection mold tools and prototypes, according to Class 101 mold spec standards.
  • Document mold design through drawings and CAD models and plastic injection molding software (i.e. Moldflow).
  • Oversee mold development as performed by mold making team and electrode designers, to meet production schedules and objectives.
