Description

The Therapeutic Concept Discovery group within the CardioRenalMetabolic Diseases Research Department is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist or Senior Principal Scientist to help discover innovative therapies for the treatment of kidney and liver diseases. The selected candidate will lead an in vitro pharmacology lab, lead drug discovery projects, and supervise a team of scientists including PhD level lab leaders.

Responsibilities
  • Design, propose and implement research strategies to identify and validate novel therapeutic targets. Develop fit for purpose biochemical and cellular assays to support timely progression of drug discovery projects.
  • Leverage internal resources and external partners to enable timely decision making.
  • Keep abreast of relevant literature and technological developments to help drive new scientific innovations and support target identification.
  • Lead, supervise, develop, and mentor scientific staff.
  • Assign clear responsibilities and hold staff accountable.
  • Comply with regulations and maintain proper records per standard operating procedures.
  • Lead matrixed, global drug discovery programs from conception to candidate selection, interfacing and aligning with multiple business partners across Research, Development, and Experimental Medicine. Effectively communicate your work to senior management in oral and written forms to ensure alignment of timelines, goals, and resource needs.
  • Assumes leadership role for either project teams or acts as a representative on multiple project teams and contributes to overall program goals
  • Independently communicates results by preparing clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations; Effectively delivers updates to senior management in context of overall project goals
  • Provides administration within area of responsibility including: recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff; Provide assistance in the preparation and management of operating and capital equipment budgets, as required
