Description

Position Title: Sr. Process Engineer
Reports To: Operations Manager
Basic Position Function:
The Sr. Process Engineer is responsible for the implementation of fully qualified and documented production processes. This includes transitioning new tooling programs, performing new mold and process improvement mold trials, troubleshooting production processes and auditing of production setups for adherence to the documented process, and identifying automation and productivity improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the Daily Production Team Meeting; MRB, CAPA, AQPQ’s and Design Review.
  • Development, creation and execution of Thermoplastic Scientific Molding processes.
  • Process development and technical reporting on new and existing tooling.
  • Set up and troubleshoot injection-molding machines to evaluate problems.
  • Set up, program and troubleshoot auxiliary equipment: robots, hot runner controllers, temperature control units, servo controllers and pickers.
  • Provides input and insight for work direction to Process Technicians.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain process development tools in a presentable package.
  • Documents process parameters and maintain backup files.
  • Verifies the acceptability of all physical attributes of the parts including date code, color, revision level, version, part number, size, critical feature detail, Class A surface appearance, etc. as required.
  • Addresses unacceptable reject levels by working on the molding process itself or acting directly to employ other resources such as tool room staff, engineering, maintenance, etc. to help improve reject levels.
  • Will routinely evaluate jobs for opportunities to reduce cycle time and other improvements whenever time is available. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate DOEs as appropriate.
  • Assist with production when workload or priority is reached.
  • Evaluate part/tool design for manufacturability.
  • Control expenditures within limitations of project budget.
  • Foster good external & internal customer relations and maintain effective communication via technical reporting.
  • Train supporting personnel.
  • Actively seeks training to improve skills and ensures skills learned during training are shared within the company.
  • Participate and lead process improvement teams (Kaizen, Hoshin).
  • Support and comply with all company ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and ISO 14001 Policies, Procedures, SOP’s, Work Instructions as they apply to the job classification.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and maintain a clean and safe work environment keeping work areas free of clutter.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in related manufacturing industry.
  • Statistical manufacturing background with experience in process capability preferred.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and FDA certified environment is desired.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Solid understanding of scientific injection molding processing and troubleshooting or molding problems in highly cosmetic thermoplastic materials and part geometries on a variety of different makes of molding machines is required. RJG Master Molder Certification a plus.
  • Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of polymers as well as basic tool design and the ability to apply them to a variety of troubleshooting scenarios.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks for multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a positive, team player in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication with leadership capabilities supporting the company’s goals, objectives and philosophies.

Personal Protective Equipment Required
Safety glasses are provided and are required in all manufacturing environments and in specified areas within the facility. Nolato San Antonio has an eye-protection reimbursement policy for full-time employees.
Ear plugs are available as a part of Nolato San Antonio’s hearing conservation program.
Steel or composite toe shoes are always required for this position and are to be provided by the employee. Nolato San Antonio has a shoe voucher policy for full-time employees.
Clean Room Attire Required
Hair net, beard cover (if applicable), gown, and shoe covers required in all manufacturing environments.
Gloves and bio-masks are required in specified manufacturing environments / work cells.
