DIMENSION:

The Sr. Product Designer plays a critical role in bridging creative design with robust engineering to deliver innovative, manufacturable, and cost-effective vehicle components and systems. This position is responsible for leading product design efforts from concept through launch, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements while aligning with manufacturing capabilities. The role demands extensive in automotive experience product development and familiarity with manufacturing processes, quality systems, and supplier collaboration. The Sr. Product Designer serves as a key contributor in cross-functional teams, interfacing with engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and suppliers to ensure timely and successful product launches.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Associates Degree in Drafting and 8+ Years Industrial Experience preferred. Proficiency in concept-to-production workflows, including ideation, prototyping, and validation. CAD software experience with advanced skills in various 3D modeling and drafting tools. A deep knowledge of manufacturing methods such as CNC machining, assembly, fabrication, etc. Understanding of interpreting and applying engineering drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerances to ensure manufacturability and quality. The ability to create designs that optimize cost, quality, and ease of productions. Strong project management and the ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

The Sr. Product Designer is responsible for delivering innovative, manufacturable, and cost effective automotive components from concept through production launch, ensuring all designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. This role upholds accountability by owning the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of all design deliverables, demonstrating integrity through adherence to industry standards and ethical practices, driving innovation by developing creative solutions that enhance product performance and manufacturability, and fostering collaboration by engaging cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to achieve shared project goals.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Participate in internal DFMEA workshops
  • Participate in technical reviews with suppliers to help optimize the design per supplier recommendations.
  • Ensure that DFM and DFA techniques are employed early in the development process.
  • Participate in prototype builds to help identify potential design improvements.
  • Help troubleshoot design issues by participating in testing and data reviews.
  • Ensure that DFM and DFA techniques are employed early in the development process.
  • Create and refine component and system designs from concept through production- ensuring manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure designs align with tooling, assembly processes, and production capabilities applying DFM/DFA principles.
  • Provide technical guidance, feedback, and training to junior designers and engineers, promotive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate design records, change logs, and configuration data in accordance with company and customer requirements.
  • Partner with suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturing, quality, and cost during concept and development phases.
  • Ensures that design intent is captured and preserved throughout design process.
  • Performs axial and radial tolerance stack-ups as needed to verify design intent.
  • Ensures that drawings are prepared in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Ensures that drawings satisfy the criteria set forth by the Design Supervisor.
  • Maintains controlled drawings and their BOM structure in an SQL Database.
  • Generate assembly and detail drawings for Prototype and Current Production.
  • Design and detail new fixtures, gages, and tooling.
  • General Understanding of hydraulic, magnetic and mechanical systems.
  • Performs work with minimal or no supervision.
  • Contributes positively in a team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
