SENIOR PRODUCT MANAGER, AIR SEARCH

Introduction to the team:
The Product Team creates high-quality end-to-end experiences for travelers, partners, and Expedia Group. Our customer-first mindset focuses on developing products that encourage loyalty and repeat business from our travelers and partners. We partner closely with teams across Expedia Group to achieve growth and results for our customers and company.
We are seeking a Sr. Product Manger to manage the Air Look-to-Book (L2B) Strategy. This pivotal role will be responsible for building, managing, and evolving Expedia Group’s approach to L2B metrics and airline message volumes as connectivity strategies evolve. This role will lead the effort in interpreting contractual thresholds, developing classification logic for airline messages, and designing platform-level mechanisms to monitor and govern message volumes. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in the airline industry, and be analytical, strategic, and comfortable working at the intersection of commercial strategy, platform technology, and data engineering.

In this role, you will:

  • Define and implement Expedia Group’s operational approach to managing airline-imposed message volume limits (e.g., Look-to-Book ratios, throttling policies, overage costs).
  • Develop and maintain a taxonomy for categorizing outbound airline messages (e.g., price check, search request, availability confirmation) to align with varied airline contract definitions of a “Look.”
  • Partner with Engineering and Data teams to instrument and tag relevant message types to external airline systems.
  • Design monitoring tools and alerting systems that track platform message volumes in real-time against airline-defined thresholds.
  • Collaborate with Airline Account Managers to inform and influence partner negotiations involving L2B constraints and costs.
  • Create scenario models that quantify the financial and operational impacts of exceeding airline message thresholds (e.g., overage fees, throttling, SLA degradation).
  • Support product and platform teams in developing throttling or rate-limiting mechanisms based on contractual boundaries.
  • Own crafting the vision for a holistic product and demonstrates ability to convincingly communicate & defend the narrative to stakeholders in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
  • Own creation of a comprehensive and defensible strategic product roadmap that maps target outcomes and KPIs to delivery milestones.
  • Coach junior PMs to build credibility and appropriately influence technical decisions, leveraging a deeper understanding of owned product technical components.
  • Participate in engineering and architecture design and review processes to enable the long-term product vision and ensure solutions that limit future tech debt.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify, influence, and motivate key stakeholders across product teams
  • Drive decision-making in ambiguous conditions in a way that drives profitability; can build financial valuations from existing or net new models independently and demonstrates the ability to size a product opportunity.
  • Rapidly determine product performance through iterative experimentation and/or win-loss analyses; recommends strategies to optimize performance.
  • Guide teams in advanced data analysis, and defines the metrics and models to tell stories that influence product decision-making and prioritization.
  • Take ownership of managing complex stakeholder landscapes, balancing diverse interests to drive successful product outcomes on complex, cross-functional teams.

Experience and qualifications:

  • 8+ years for Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related professional experience
  • 5+ years experience in strategy, product operations, analytics, or partner management within the travel, airline, or tech sectors.
  • Deep familiarity with GDS, NDC, or other airline distribution technologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional settings.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
